Injuries in childbirth: Raising awareness and restoring dignity for mothers

London, England, UK
22 March 2017

Description:
Launching the MASIC Foundation this one day open educational event will consider how the medical profession can help improve outcomes and modify healthcare policy to reduce the impact of anal sphincter injuries (AS) during childbirth.

This is a multidisciplinary meeting is open to all, including doctors, obstetricians, gynaecologists, midwives, nurses, physiotherapists, legal experts and lay members. It promises to highlight the need for wider recognition of an issue affecting over 10% of women who have a baby through the birth canal.

Delegates will hear health experts tackle methods of prevention, detection of injuries and holistic support for those who are injured; mothers will tell their stories; they will learn about the economic consequences and employment issues facing those affected as well as the legal position of consent, compensating avoidable injury and treatment failures for women.

The MASIC Foundation is giving nurses, midwives, physiotherapists and students an opportunity to have their travel reimbursed (up to £50 on off peak standard class train travel). Delegates must book onto the meeting and attend the full day in order to benefit from this opportunity.

The day will end with a drinks reception allowing delegates to further network and continue discussion outside of the conference arena.
